Now, Guthrie has assured fans that he’s “fine” following the surgery—though he can’t talk just yet.
The TV personality and mother of two—who celebrated her 54th birthday on Dec. 27—took to Instagram to reassure “Today” viewers that she’s on the mend, sharing a photo of herself holding a small white sign, which read: “Great! Thanks for the prayers and love!”
She captioned it with a smile while holding the register, “see you soon.”
Guthrie announced the news of his surgery on December 19, telling fans that he would be back soon, adding that the procedure was “no big, big deal.”
“Some of you noticed that my voice was very scratchy and started to crack a little, I’ve found out what it is,” he explained to the viewers.
“I have vocal nodules, and I have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I’m going to have to have surgery in the new year and be gone for a few weeks, so this is my last day for a while.”
He went on to express his relief that the long-standing problem had finally been discovered, and he even thought it meant surgery, revealing: “This has been going on for years, honestly, for a solution…”
Guthrie revealed that some viewers have expressed concern about her tone, adding that they think she has “the coldest head in the world.”
However, there is one major drawback for the on-air host—he won’t be able to speak for weeks after the procedure, although he jokes that this might be a welcome gift to his family.

“The silver lining is that you have permission to be quiet. It’s quiet in the house, the kids will want to help you. Many adults have done it, maybe you’ll go out singing, I don’t know,Celine Dion,” Jones said.
Guthrie joked, “Well, you know, it’s really funny, I used to sing. I can’t sing and I can’t talk. Now who knows, the tour is happening in 2026.”
