Greater Ocean Road Real Estate, Lorne agent Ian Stewart is handling expressions of interest for the property at 142 Smith St, Lorne.
Leading Melbourne architecture firm Jackson Clement Burrows has designed a multi-generational holiday home with an underground garage, swimming pool, theater and study rooms.
Architect Graham Burrows said the rebuilding project, completed by Poulsen Architects a decade ago, was made of a stunning natural tree-lined, sloping property.
“One of the design responses was about how to get in between those trees in a sensitive way and we were aware of places to protect the tree roots to actually produce some of those geometries,” Mr Burrows said.
“Some of the angles were also about providing opportunities to see even to the back, from some of the bedrooms at the back of the building, back down to the harbour.
“It was a tribute to what was so special about that place and Lorne in general. It’s one of the few places in Australia where you can find the forest meeting the sea.”
The rumpus room on the ground floor has underfloor heating.
The location is not far from Lorne Pier and the Grand Pacific Hotel.
The kitchen has European appliances and a butler’s pantry.
Floor-to-ceiling windows take in the sea views of the open-plan living area and the master bedroom, which has an ensuite with sea-facing bath and adjoining sitting room.
“It’s about embracing that amazing aspect and feeling like you’re in a tree at the same time,” he said.
As a multi-generational holiday home, there are five en-suite bedrooms each, as well as a choice of lounge spaces and a remote study.
Mr Burrows said the owners were passionate about interiors designed to showcase their works of art.
Other features include a lift, tandem double garage, wine cellar and Control4 smart home system.
Lorne’s current house price record of $7.25m has stood for six years, when the luxury property at 1 Roadknight Rd was sold just before the Covid pandemic hit.
Another 5500sq m site in Big Hill sold for $8.25m in December 2022.
Expressions of interest at 142 Smith St, Lorne, close on February 12 at 5pm.
