North Carolina’s Beautiful Dome Home ‘Proofs Over-Reinforced Corners’—And All Under $250K

An “extraordinary” geodesic dome home in North Carolina proves that living without it may be the way to go after hitting the market for $235,000.

Set on 4.6 acres of green space in rural Reidsville, NC, this property—according to its listing—“proves that corners are overcrowded” by carefully utilizing the available space within its circular structure.

While on paper, the property offers just 978 square meters of living space, inside, it feels very spacious, one of the many qualities that make it so special.

“It’s a rare home, it clearly and balances bold architecture with everyday living,” said the listing agent. Marela Turkic and Keller Williams Realty One.

“From the outside, it’s strange and unexpected, but when you get inside, it feels calm, open, and incredibly functional.”

So it should come as no surprise that the property attracted a buyer within months of being listed—and is now awaiting an offer, though Turkic says he’s still accepting offers.

This home was built in 1998 and has one bedroom, a loft, and two bathrooms.

“The curved design kind of creates a natural flow and allows light to move through the space differently than a traditional home. It’s more intended and meant to be lived in, not just viewed,” said Turkic.

With the dome design, there are no corners in the house, except in the kitchen, with a joke list: “Corners are out. Curves are in.”

However, the round walls do not prevent a comfortable life, according to Turkic.

“You’d think it’s impossible, but it’s not and that surprised me a lot,” he admits. “I thought I would feel claustrophobic in there, but it flows really well.”

The tiny home sits on a large 4.6 acre lot so there is plenty of privacy.

“The original owner who built this actually had plans to build two more [domes] in the area and for rent,” said Turkic, adding that the existing dome would make a good rental.

There is also an 812-square-foot basement that gives the home even more space.

“The basement is heated and cooled, but I didn’t include that in the square footage,” he says, adding that the home also comes with a shipping box, with electrical wiring, which the current owner has used as a workshop.

The dome home has been on the market for a while, so when Turkic took the latest listing, he decided to change the marketing.

“Trying to set it up as a normal list isn’t going to help, is it? So the home didn’t change but the style did. We stopped trying to make it normal and started telling its story,” he explains. “You make it different and show it for what it really is.”

Turkic says the perfect buyer is someone who wants something unique and private.

“I love the little deck outside and they have a little jungle-like area in the back. It’s a great place for yoga.”
