Vermont’s Most-Built ‘Eden’ Is a $6 Million Estate That Looks Like a Hallmark Movie Set

The holiday season may be behind us, but that’s done little to quell the desire for snow-carved abodes that look like the queen of a Hallmark movie. Lacey Chabert he can walk out the door at any time.

That’s exactly what house hunters will find in one stunning Vermont estate that just hit the market for $5.95 million and looks like the backdrop of every holiday movie seen on the screens.

The aptly named “Eden” in Stowe, VT, may not have served as a movie set, yet it boasts more than any other home on the market.

The nearly 12,000-square-foot estate at 484 Edson Hill Road is located in the heart of Stowe and is conveniently located between the town’s shopping streets and the ski trails of Stowe Mountain Resort.

Recently listed for $5.95 million, the property is offering one lucky buyer a chance to cozy up in Vermont’s storybook ski town—proving Santa still has one last gift up his big red sleeve.

It was built in 1996 and designed by an architect Bud Wilson in a local family, the home has changed hands only twice since it was built.

According to the listing agent Alison Beckwithand Vermont Real Estate Company, the current sellers are third-party owners, who first purchased the residence as a primary home after moving to Stowe with their children.

However, in the years since then, the family has found more uses for the property—as a lucrative rental property.

“Since they spend a lot of time abroad now, they offer this place as a vacation spot and a place for events, and they get a lot of money when they’re away,” Beckwith said.

Set on over 21 private acres, Eden brings privacy that’s hard to find in Stowe—especially with its proximity to everything. The land directly abuts Wiessner Woods, a nearly 76-acre property owned by the Stowe Land Trust, giving the area a storybook backdrop of protected forests and trails.

“You can walk out the door and enjoy Eden’s 21-plus private acres but also access these wooded trails, providing nearly 100 acres to explore,” explains Beckwith. The trail network also connects to the famous Catamount Trail, perfect for hiking, snowshoeing, and quiet winter walks.

The exterior amenities of the building itself are equally attractive. Two spring-fed lakes offer year-round fun for swimming, fishing, or skiing, while a clay tennis court with an adjacent terrace sets the scene for leisurely summer afternoons.

The swimming pool is anchored by a stone patio, surrounded by landscaped areas that seem both intentional and natural.

“The indoor and outdoor facilities are designed for both sport and relaxation,” Beckwith said.

Architecturally, the home leans towards the classic. A stone-faced turret marks the entry, accompanied by some clapboard and shingle accents that echo the New England tradition and what Beckwith describes as “the sigh of the French country.”

Inside, the turret curve repeats the home, from the mudroom, which connects to the heated three-car garage, to the hallways that lead to the soaring great room.

Beckwith says: “A home is timeless in its design, it doesn’t bow to architectural fads or designs that seem to cycle every five to ten years.

Instead, the interiors emphasize the art: beautiful wood, marble finishes, beautiful stone fireplaces, and walls of windows that include views of Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak.

Designed for both entertaining and multi-generational living, this home’s layout includes a sun-filled kitchen, breakfast room, patio with fireplace, and a lower level entertainment area with a gym, spa area, sauna, and access to an outdoor hot tub.

A two-bedroom in-law suite offers guests privacy, while a separate guest wing has four additional bedrooms and three full baths. Upstairs, the primary suite is its own retreat, complete with a sitting room, balcony, dressing room with cedar closet, and a compact office.

But location may be the most important chapter in this book’s story.

“The Edson Hill location is one of the most desirable locations in Stowe because of its central location on Mountain Road, which allows for easy access to the rest of town and the ski area,” Beckwith said.

From Eden, minutes to Stowe’s shops, restaurants, breweries, golf courses, farmers market, and recreational trail—yet the area still feels remote.

“There are very few places in Stowe that can boast a place like this,” Beckwith said. With privacy, views, and a permanent structure, Eden lives up to its name and offers a lifestyle that promises to be as magical as it looks.
