Space Coast Developer Lists Island Property Once Home of Florida’s Iconic ‘Annie the Dragon’ for $7 Million

A Florida property on the southern tip of a peninsula jutting into the Atlantic Ocean has hit the market for $7 million—decades after it was known as the home of the 65-foot dragon sculpture popularly known as Annie.
The aptly named Dragon Point sits on the tip of Merritt Island, FL, where visitors used to flock to see “Annie the Dragon,” a giant sea-green sculpture that occupied the building for decades.
Although the whimsical creature is not real, it is a remarkable symbol of the world would be occasionally breathe fire and smoke from a propane tank, creating a spectacle in your neighborhood.
“Everybody knows this place,” he said Stephanie Dandridgewho includes him Jamie Dandridge of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty. “It was first bought back in 1971, too Lewis VanDercar you’ve been given the job of building Annie.”
Along with the 5,700-square-foot house that once occupied the property, Annie became a sight to behold for boaters, locals, and tourists alike.

“I grew up in the area and I remember when Annie was wearing full dresses,” said Stephanie. “We were going on a cruise to hang out on Annie the Dragon. It was supposed to be 12 feet high inside and 10 feet wide. It was an incredible playhouse and it was very popular.”
Annie even accessed the Smithsonian Institution Research Information System, which provides the best possible description of a remarkable piece of art.
“It is a bright sea green color; its mouth is painted red and its teeth are white. Four dragons hatch from the eggs to the right of the dragon’s left,” said the description.
“The hatchlings are light green and have red beaks. The dragon’s tail curls up on its head. The door near the dragon’s tail leads to an inner chamber.”
As well as serving as a tourist attraction, Annie was also a source of fortune for locals, who would visit the sculpture when they needed an upgrade—prompting the original owner of the site to expand the installation.
“A lot of people interpret what the dragon means, and according to American Indian history, it’s a symbol of luck and fortune,” Jamie said.
“Over time, the second owner added Annie’s four cubs. Almost everyone in the community is really encouraging the next owner to bring back Annie or one of her cubs.”
Tragically, Annie died during a storm on the Space Coast in 2002 and was later put down for good.
In 2015, the site was acquired by Space Coast developer Don Facciobene.

Now, the peninsula property that boasts 180-degree views of the Indian and Banana rivers is being sold in three ways: as a green space for $4,500,000; with a five-bedroom property to be built by DFI Contractors of Facciobene occupying approximately 7,000 square feet of luxury space for $7,000,000; or, for an additional $1,000,000, an artist will create a modern interpretation of Annie the Dragon.
Future renderings are included in the listing so buyers can visualize what the home will look like when finished.
“I think the next buyer will be someone who is proud of the place, who is interested in being surrounded by water, and who has a history playing,” said Stephanie. “It’s zoned residential, so it could be a rental property or a great single-family home.”
Most of the residents on the 16-home private peninsula are first-time residents, but the Dandridges see it being used as a second home.
“Dragon Point is in high demand, so this list is rare,” Stephanie said. “You don’t see anything coming on the market. It’s always been a small beach town, but in 2020 when COVID-19 hits, people are realizing that you can get affordable waterfront property in this untapped gem.”
Plans for the waterfront mansion awaiting customization include “expanded living spaces, multiple guest accommodations, and a generous garage.”
There will also be “selective outdoor seating areas” that provide a forward view of rocket launches from nearby Cape Canaveral.
“There is an influx of infrastructure coming because of the space program,” added Stephanie. “Combined with amazing weather all the time, no crime, 45 minutes to Orlando and all the theme parks, and five minutes to the beach, it’s one of those places that has it all. We, at ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, are very proud to represent this one.”
