George Clooney and Donald Trump Trade Bitter Jabs Over Actor’s Decision to Take French Citizenship

The president Donald Trump the actor is very angry George Clooney about his decision to become a French citizen—while criticizing the European country’s “mistreatment of immigrants.”
Trump, 79, took to his social network Truth Social to talk about the news that Clooney, 64, and his wife, Amal Clooney47, had been granted citizenship by the French government, along with their 8-year-old twins, Come on again Alexander.
The president mockingly celebrated the couple’s move from the US, before going on to criticize George as an “ordinary guy” who starred in a series of “mediocre movies.”
“Good news! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political predictors of all time, have become French citizens, sadly, in the midst of a huge crime problem because of their horrible treatment of people in other countries as we were under sleep.Joe Biden,” he said, referring to his predecessor as president.
Trump continued to criticize George’s decision to withdraw his support for President Biden’s re-election campaign, before taking aim at some of his most vocal opponents, including California Gov. Gavin Newsomformer Vice President Kamala Harrisand his spouse, Tim Walz.
“Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, ditched Joe at a fundraiser, and sided with another candidate, Jamala(K!), who is fighting the worst governor in the country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, over who will lead the Democrats to defeat in the future.
“Clooney is more politically known than he is in his very few, and completely mediocre, movies. He was never a movie star, he was just a regular guy who complained, always, about common sense in politics. DO AMERICA AGAIN!”

This actor—who had been outspoken in his criticism of Trump—quickly attacked the president, issuing a statement to a Hollywood reporter in which he responded to the political leader’s slogan to oppose him.
“I completely agree with the current president,” he said. “We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.”
The public spat between the two men erupted hours after it was revealed that George and his family had taken French citizenship – although they would be able to keep their American passports as a matter of local law in their new country.
George’s naturalization was revealed over the weekend in the Journal Officiel, the publication where French government regulations are officially distributed.
The “Ocean’s Eleven” star announced in October that she and her family have moved permanently to their home in Brignoles, France, telling Esquire that she hopes the move will allow her children to grow up with a more normal life than they would have enjoyed in Los Angeles.
“We live on a farm in France, most of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a child I hated the whole idea of it. [the twins]it’s like, they’re not on their iPads, you know? They eat dinner with the adults and they have to take their own dishes,” explained George, who spoke to the shop from his home in Lake Como, Italy.
“They have the best life. I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the Hollywood culture. I felt like they would never get a good shake in life.”
He went on to express his concern about how his profile in Hollywood-and the spotlight this has shone on his children-could negatively affect the twins, noting that he wanted them to be able to enjoy a carefree life away from photographers and industry stereotypes.
“France-summer doesn’t give a–t about fame. I don’t want them to go around worrying about the paparazzi. I don’t want them to be compared to someone else’s famous kids,” he added.
George noted that he is thankful that there is a big age gap between him and his children because they won’t have to deal with people comparing their success to his personal work.

“The thing that I feel lucky about is that I am very old, so there is little chance that the idea that my son will be compared to me is very little, because by the time he is about to do anything, I will be cutting my bread,” he said.
He also noted that it is important to him that his children are able to be independent, adding that he often suggests that they watch him fix things around the house, such as the swimming pool cover or their coffee machine.
“It’s important to me that they live,” added the actor.
George did not reveal when he and Amal decided to move to France permanently. However, the couple is believed to have purchased a large property in the European country for $8.3 million in 2021.
The screen star reiterated his praise for the country in an interview with local radio station RTL in December, where he revealed how much privacy he and his family have been able to enjoy since moving.
“Here, they don’t take pictures of children. There are no hidden paparazzi at the school gates. This is our number 1,” he said.
George added that the familyit doeshe still has a place in the US—and his estate that spans Lake Como—but that the French residence was their “happiest” place.
“We also have a house in the United States, but our most enjoyable place is on this farm where the children can have fun,” he said.
The actor has been working hard to try to fit in with the local community by learning French on the popular app Duolingo, although he previously admitted that progress towards that goal was slow, admitting in 2024 that his understanding of the dialect was “bad.”
