SA homes are perfect for recreating romantic movie scenes

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than watching a classic rom-com or hot drama with your significant other or close friends?
From Pretty Woman to The Notebook, they are iconic movies that will make you laugh, cry and feel every emotion.
Let’s be honest, a lot of people want to love the same characters as the main characters – and many, more than they don’t mind admitting, have been passionate about living the scenes that make these movies so famous.
So for those with a flair for the theatrical, here are a few homes in SA where you can recreate those memorable moments.

The Notebook
Rachel McAdams as Allie and Ryan Gosling as Noah in the 2004 film The Notebook.
Let’s start with the most popular romantic dramas of the modern era.
Most people know that lake scene in The Notebook, even if they haven’t seen the 2004 film – one moment Noah and Allie are paddling in silence when it starts to rain.
They rush into the world and like rain, feelings buried for years come out before they share a passionate kiss – the frozen image is a promotional poster for the film.
For those who daydream about recreating that heartfelt moment, the Yatala Vale property at 488-500 Yatala Vale Rd is the place to do it.
It has a lake almost like the one in the movie, only smaller, and has a jetty for a small boat.

Love Actually

With several scenes and one line that are often quoted more than two decades later, the 2003 Christmas movie Love Actually is still very popular.
There are several famous moments in the film, some heartwarming and some heartbreaking.
One of the biggest celebrations of love is Peter and Juliet’s wedding – a surprise rendition of “All You Need is Love” plays after they are pronounced husband and wife, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.
To recreate this touching scene, all you need is love, apparently, a singer with a heavenly voice, a choir and a converted church at 18 Victoria Rd, Clare.
Settle into the mezzanine level while you and your significant other enjoy a private show from the fire floor.
A holiday
Cameron Diaz on Holiday.
Another staple of romantic viewing, Holiday is full of sweet moments in romantic settings.
One frequently seen location in the 2006 film is a small English cottage, owned by Kate Winslet’s character Iris.
Cameron Diaz’s character Amanda stays at home for a while where she meets and quickly falls in love with Iris’ brother Graham, played by Jude Law.
Whether you’re in a long-term relationship or exploring a new one, cozying up by the fire with a bottle of wine at this Burra cottage at 5 Penglawdd St is the closest you’ll get to recreating movie moments without leaving the county.
Anyone But You

A modern rom-com, Anyone But You follows the classic enemies-to-lovers storyline.
Even if you don’t like your partner before you meet, scenes from the 2023 movie are some of the easiest to recreate because they were filmed in Australia.
A heartwarming and widely shared moment between lead characters Bea and Ben on a boat as they try to convince their friends and family that they love each other is a prime example.
With some warm weather and fireside appeal, Hindmarsh Island’s waterfront location at 40 Edison St can set the scene for the same moment.
Although, if you’re “fit like a hot girl” like Ben, we don’t recommend swimming too far…

When Harry Met Sally
Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally.
We all know the restaurant – it says “I’ll have what he has” and most people will understand immediately.
For those who haven’t seen it, go watch the 1989 film which is considered to be the defining film of the romantic comedy genre because this is not the place to describe such a scene in detail.
If you’ve been thinking about checking out if you can get away with modeling the place but you’re worried about getting kicked out of the place, why not buy a restaurant first?
There is one in Munno Para, Lot 203/2 Curtis Rd, home to Nando’s.
Owners will certainly not be excluded from trying the classic scene, if anything it can bring more people to the same quest.
We suggest you warn customers what you’re doing first but to give other people time to leave – it’s a family restaurant, after all.

Romeo + Juliet
Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo in Romeo + Juliet.
OK, so this isn’t a romantic comedy, but we felt it was worth mentioning because, let’s face it, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is arguably the greatest love story ever told.
It’s not just a joke. And that’s because of a large part of all the death and misery.
Still, buy this Port Lincoln property and you’ll be able to recreate director Baz Luhrmann’s iconic scene where the doomed couple meet, their eyes locked across the aquarium.
Granted, one of you will have to get into this, but still. You get the point…
The Port Lincoln area at 16-18 North Point Ave has a popular aquarium.
American beauty
Kevin Spacey and Mena Suvari in American Beauty.
Also, not a romantic comedy, but Valentine’s Day is the time for red roses and this scene has plenty of them (if you’ll pardon the pun)
Sometimes love is forbidden, so although we do not encourage you to recreate the scene where Kevin Spacey tries to seduce his daughter’s friend, there is nothing to prevent you from treating your loved one to a shower full of rose petals.
And when it comes to baths, we don’t know any cooler than the one at 26 Caloroga Street, Wattle Park.
And its see-through nature allows you to view your loved one in all their glory.
The Wattle Park home at 26 Caloroga St has a cool bath.
