Upscale KC John Keenan lists Brighton home for $4.65m

21 Grosvenor St, Brighton, hosts football legends and official eagles.

The Brighton home of retired council chief John Keenan, who is the brother of AFL legend Peter “Crackers” Keenan, has gone on the market.

The 21 Grosvenor St property is where he went home after a series of high-profile murders including after winning $10,000 compensation for each of the renegade Tasty nightclub revelers who were searched by police for drugs in 1994.

He also worked on a fatal exorcism case near Horsham that same year.

“He’s also a local celebrity around Church St, stopping for a vanilla slice at Keith’s Cakes, or swimming with the Brighton Icebergers,” Ms Keenan said.

The five-bedroom home was once home to Mr Keenan, his wife, four children and three dogs – two of which are dalmatians.

“We used to go to Brighton’s bathrooms every night after school, and we would take pieces out of the stones and take them home and cook them,” said his daughter.

“There were Wednesday roasts cooked in the kitchen, and on Sundays there would be minestrone in front of the fireplace.”

Eye-catching wallpaper in the home’s dining room has been surprising the guest for decades.

The father’s open-door policy meant his children got the keys to the house for the first time almost 10 years ago.

The wallpaper in the dining room looks fast – and is almost 50 years old now.

Character details are still on display, from the high ceilings throughout the home and multiple marble fireplaces, to the wrought iron beams on the porch and ornate plasterwork.

The backyard has a pool and outdoor entertaining area, while inside there is a sunroom and separate dining and living rooms.

“It will be very sad to say goodbye, it will be heartbreaking – I still feel at home,” Ms Keenan said.

Nick Johnstone Real Estate’s Nick Johnstone is handling the $4.65m listing and said it’s the kind of property that feels like home.

With Brighton Beach, the yacht club and Brighton Baths at the end of the road, he said it was a beautiful bayside address steeped in history, and ready for a new chapter.
