David Hasselhoff once told a court he was down to his last $US4000 ($A5,700).
But a look inside the realm of the fictional Baywatch universe tells a very different story.
If he is worth $100 million ($A150 million), the actor is reportedly worth $10 million ($A15 million).
The 73-year-old star, whose financial journey has been a mix of “broke” claims and big TV deals, has spent decades building a global real estate portfolio that would put even Mitch Buchannon to shame.

Hoff’s haul proves that even when he “struggled,” he was always great.
Encino ‘Grotto’
In 1996, he paid $US1.9 million ($A2.7 million) for a sprawling estate in Encino, California. The compound has a library, a private press room, and a gym.
He finally sold the longtime family home in 2013 for US$3.5 million ($A4.9 million).
Calabasas ‘Mini-Mansion’
The same year he sold Encino, he bought a US1.9 million ($A2.7 million) residence in Calabasas.
This five bedroom home features a sunken living room and family room with a wet bar.
Outside, the 1.5-acre grounds boasted a lagoon-style pool with a waterfall and a basketball court.

Listing ‘Impossible’
In 2020, Hasselhoff teamed up with his daughter Taylor to sell a Calabasas home for $3.6 million ($A5.1 million) as part of the reality show Listing Impossible.
The series followed real estate agents trying to unload highly customized, hard-to-sell homes.
They were unsuccessful in selling the property and this remains David’s primary home.
The Knight Rider star reportedly owns a $US1.3 million ($A1.8 million) home in Monrovia. The residence has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Bali Paradise
In 2017, Hasselhoff expanded his portfolio internationally, purchasing a beachfront property on the island of Gili Meno, Indonesia.
The seaside pad is part of a resort development on the island paradise, located on the east coast of Bali.
Facilities include a sleek bar area, sun terrace, infinity pool with stunning ocean views and direct access to one of the island’s beaches.
“I love Gili Meno because there are no cars on the island, it’s like going back in time,” Hasselhoff said of his investment at the time.
“The best thing about this island is that you can eat well, like fresh lobsters, and it doesn’t cost you anything.”

$150m in prizes
When Baywatch was axed after just one season in 1990, Hasselhoff and his partners bought the rights back for a pittance.
They took it and put it together and created the most watched game in the world.
As a major producer, this move earned him an estimated $US100 million ($A150 million) over 11 years.
At his peak, he was pocketing $US60,000 ($A85,000) per episode and $US4 million ($A5.7 million) a year in royalties.

Claim of ‘infringement’
Despite his TV fortune, Hasselhoff allegedly had less than $US4000 ($A5,700) in liquid assets during a spousal support battle with ex-wife Pamela Bach.
According to TMZ in 2016, he was making US$112,000 ($A160,000) a month and had US$1.79 million ($A2.55 million) in real estate, savings, cars, art, and jewelry.
His ex-wife said Hasselhoff was lying about the amount of his money, saying it was closer to $US120 million ($A171 million) with expenses of $US66,000 ($A94,000) a month.
The actress and Bach reached an agreement to reduce her monthly alimony from $US21,000 ($A30,000) to $US10,000 ($A15,000) in late 2016, The Sun reported.

In 2017, Hasselhoff successfully had the monthly payments reduced to $5,000 ($A7,500) a month, citing his reduced salary and Bach’s failure to find work.
The TV star told Entertainment Tonight at the time that we never thought we’d run out of money.
“I was laughing at all these people who made money and lost it, and I was like, ‘How could that happen to them?'” Hasselhoff told the newspaper in 2016.
“All of a sudden, I woke up one morning and said, ‘Oh, I see now!'”
At the time, Hasselhoff said he had paid more than $US2.5 million ($A3.5 million) to Bach since their split.
He paid this partial amount from December 2017 until November 30, 2020, according to TMZ.
After Bach and Hasselhoff split in 2016, he went on to marry Hayley Roberts in 2018.
In March 2025, Bach died by suicide at the age of 62 at his Hollywood Hills home.
