Nevada Mansion With Ties to Chicago’s Navy Pier—And Offers Unrivaled Views of the Las Vegas Strip—Lists for $8 Million

There he was an architect who had a hand in the construction of some of the country’s most prominent buildings—including New York City’s Hudson Yards. again Chicago’s famous Navy Pier-build your own family home, there is no doubt that this place will be amazingly designed and will stand the test of time.
That’s exactly what hit the market in Henderson, NV, a tony Las Vegas suburb, there James Salterfounder and former president of Construction Management and Development Inc., built a large multi-generational residence for his family.
Located in the exclusive MacDonald Highlands neighborhood, this property—on the market for $7.99 million—sits on top of a hill, allowing its residents to overlook the Las Vegas Strip.
Residence, listed with Spencer McDonald again Laura Casanova of IS Luxury, unfolding over nearly 7,000 square meters, was designed to accommodate not only Salter and his wife, but also his parents and mother-in-law.
Salter is familiar with expansive buildings, having negotiated both the Hudson Yards and Navy Pier projects. But while his residence is full of drama—with huge walls of glass framing Sin City Strip vistas—it also offers something his commercial properties lack: a genuine sense of family comfort.

“He worked on and oversaw some of the biggest resorts and projects in the world,” explained McDonald, noting that Salter’s work also included several Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons properties.
“He wanted a home that was maintenance-free and structurally sound. He didn’t cut corners or take shortcuts in hopes of making a profit. The house was built with structural steel and cast-in-place concrete. It’s really unlike any other custom home in Las Vegas, from a quality standpoint.”
Excavation alone took six months, followed by two years of construction.
No expense was spared, including the use of natural stone, custom cabinetry made in Spain, and smart-home automation.
On the main level is a kitchen with an integrated dining table, light European cabinetry, and a wine display with floating racks and two temperature-controlled refrigerators, so that bottles can be stored and accessible. Each bedroom offers access to the outdoors, with the master suite boasting a private terrace, an eye-catching fireplace, and a spa-worthy tub.
Likewise, the living room—with its two-way fireplace, perfect for cozy nights—meets the outdoors, with access to a backyard with a pool, spa, fireplaces, barbecue and gazebo.
Whoever buys this mansion will be the first to live in it. This is because during construction, some family members died, so the house was no longer needed.
With five bedrooms, 5.5 baths, and a six-car garage, this would be the perfect family compound or could serve as a getaway for fun guests.
There is also room to expand with a gym, office, wine cellar or additional bedrooms.
Another fun fact about the home is that it is energy efficient and designed to stay cool during the warmer months, based on positioning the home ideally to the north and placing 63 solar panels on the roof.

In August, the bill was only $58 to heat a nearly 7,000-square-foot home, McDonald said, adding that “it’s just under 3,000 square meters.
However, the outdoor pool is always in direct sunlight.
Through 12-foot tall windows made from Low-E glass, which reflects heat and blocks UV rays, you can see Mount Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, and the Las Vegas Strip.
“The windows they used are the largest windows that can be used in a residence in Las Vegas,” said McDonald.
“MacDonald Highlands is one of the most sought-after areas in all of Las Vegas. It has a beautifully designed country club (DragonRidge Golf and Country Club) with world-class amenities, an amazing golf course, clubhouse, and tons of member activities,” added McDonald.
“We call MacDonald Highlands the Hollywood Hills of Las Vegas. You have custom homes built into the mountain to take advantage of the view.”
What makes this one so different is that it is within walking distance to the clubhouse and close to the front gate, unlike other community homes that are 20 minutes away. It is also well suited for the family, which was the original intention.
“The buyer profile we’re looking at is probably someone who likes to entertain and is looking for a trophy place or a home that really makes a statement,” McDonald said. “We’re seeing a lot of our buyers come from California and Washington, and even the East Coast, looking for a better tax climate.”
The community attracts buyers looking for a primary residence and a vacation home.
Either way, Harry Reid International Airport is just a 15-minute drive away and, for private jets, Henderson Executive Airport is even closer. Access to the entertainment, restaurants, and concert venues on the Strip is also a breeze—just a 15 or 20 minute drive.
