A luxury mansion built by one of Melbourne’s founders has broken the Oak Park house price record by selling for $3m.
Located in the north of the city, the 1728sq m property at 7 Oak Park Court has marble floors, gold leaf moldings, stained glass windows, an indoor pool and spa, a billiards room, a bar and a four-car garage.
Records show it broke the sub-$2.6m house benchmark set by a four-bedroom house at 128 Devereaux St in 2021.

UK-born businessman and politician John Pascoe Fawkner developed the Oak Park Court estate as a farm, known as Belle Vue Park, in the 1830s and 1840s.
The areas around Fawkner and Pascoe Vale were named after Fawkner, who financed a group that left Tasmania and organized a settlement near the Yarra River that later became the modern city of Melbourne.
After Fawkner’s death in 1869, an English family bought Belle Vue Park and built a two-story mansion attached to the original home.
The six-bedroom address is classified by the National Trust as a building of historical importance.
The mansion dates back to the 1830s.
John Pascoe Fawkner financed a group of free settlers from Tasmania to sail to Australia in 1835. They established a settlement on the Yarra River which became the city of Melbourne.
Chandeliers, marble fireplaces, gold leaf and high ceilings are featured throughout this mansion.
A couple who bought the property in 1992 spent years restoring it as their family home.
McDonald Upton’s Rhys Afford, who was listed with partner Joe Zucco, said Belle Vue Park went under the hammer in early December and was successful in asking $2.5m to $2.7m.
Negotiations with the highest bidder, a local family, led to a $3m sale that became official this week.
Mr Afford said he believed the buyers were planning to stay in the mansion and may have made some repairs.
“The old Victorian part of it, built in the 1800s, is in amazing shape,” he said.
“It needs a cosmetic lift, but the structure and the way it has held up over time has been amazing.”

Mr Afford said the family was attracted by the size and uniqueness of Belle Vue Park.
“It’s not something you can replace, it’s the only one like it in Oak Park and the only one like it for miles,” he added.
Buyers from as far away as Templestowe have inquired about accommodation with a horseshoe-shaped driveway, Melbourne city views from a second-floor balcony and an entertaining space with a fully equipped bar, fireplace and three sets of French doors leading out.
PropTrack data from realestate.com.au shows Oak Park’s median house price is $1.185m.
