Inside the apartment is Mermaid Beach with its own rooftop pool and swimming pool

Long-time Gold Coast property magnate Simon Newitt wasn’t just looking for a beachfront property.
He wanted a private rooftop resort with a pool he could heat to 40 degrees, lounge chairs, spa jets, and color-changing lights – and at 3/3 Petrel Avenue Mermaid Beach, he found it.
The former owner of Tallai’s infamous “Skyfall” James Bond home which sold for a record suburb in 2025, Mr Newitt has an eye for spaces that combine drama, luxury and a sense of occasion – which is why he admits he’s a keen observer.
453 Panorama, Tallai, sold for a property record under $7.75m in 2025.
“I’m pretty to look at,” said Mr Newitt.
Up there, you’re sitting higher than the surrounding roof. You can see the hinterland, down to Nobby’s Beach and across the sky.”
It was this idea that sealed Mr Newitt’s decision to buy off-plan.
“One of the things that motivated us to buy this is that the children can find their own place,” said Mr Newitt.
“With three en-suite bedrooms, each with their own living area – and the rooftop pool and entertainment area are just right up there.
“The kids love it, and when friends come over, the pool, the cabana, the sound system – it’s a place where everyone lives.”
3/3 Petrel Ave, Mermaid Beach, is up for auction
Occupying the top two levels of Tres, a three-story boutique building by Grimmond and BDA Architecture, this apartment offers 321sqm of indoor and outdoor living space.
The apartment is on the top floor of TRES
2.8m high ceilings, natural stone and timber finishes, and a chef’s kitchen with V-ZUG and Liebherr appliances paired with a discreet butler’s pantry and sleek bar, all flow seamlessly into the open plan living and dining area.
A custom built-in fireplace anchors the space, while sliding doors slide back to connect the interior to the patio overlooking Nobby Headland.
But it’s the roof that steals the show – according to Mr Newitt, the top private playground.
“You’re actually using the roof – it’s not just for looks,” Mr Newitt said.
“I’m a big privacy person, and this ticks all the boxes.”
It is the size of a house
Perched above the surrounding buildings, it has a heated pool that rises to 40 degrees, spa jets, bubbles, and three swimming chairs built into the water.
Custom lighting changes the mood as the sun rises and sets, while glass panels feature uninterrupted vistas of the ocean and skyline.
A raised cabana, enclosed kitchen with bar, powder room, and surround sound speakers transform the terrace into a fully functional entertainment space.
“Everything you need is here and it’s ready for any time, all year round,” she said.
“This apartment is the kind of place where you come home on Friday, park the car and don’t touch it again until Monday morning.
“Everything you could want is readily available.”

Kollosche agent Rob Lamb said the three-bedroom, three-bathroom property is attracting downsizers.
“It’s perfect for people who want to downsize without compromising on space or lifestyle,” said Mr Lamb.
“You still get your own pool, rooftop terrace and outdoor kitchen, but with low-maintenance living just steps from the beach.”

Mr Lamb said the three car spaces were also an “unusual donation”.
“Due to the growing popularity of Mermaid, having three car spaces for each apartment is a good plan for the future,” he said.
From its luxurious master suite with spa-style ensuite and walk-in robe, to additional bedrooms, Venetian-plaster powder rooms, app-controlled lighting, air conditioning, and an 11sqm lockable storage cage with EV charger, Tres combines luxury, functionality, and sophistication.
Kollosche will take 3/3 Petrel Avenue Mermaid Beach to auction on Friday 27th February at 2.30pm.
