What Pioneers Need to Know

There is only one step left until the v20 version.

Pi Network’s Core team took you to X at the end of the business week to announce the latest blockchain update that has been successfully migrated. The v19.6 protocol has been used, leaving version 19.9, the next in line, the only one left before the highly anticipated v20.

The announcement also urged nodes to ensure they upgrade to the new version.

Nodes, The Update Is Here

Remember that the team first explained the upcoming development series last week, saying that the Pi nodes have until February 15 to complete their migration so that they can remain connected to the network once it is launched.

In an explanatory post dedicated to nodes, the team described them as a “fourth role within the Pi ecosystem,” which needs to run on laptops and desktop computers instead of mobile devices. Similar to nodes in other blockchains, they must verify transactions and maintain a distributed ledger by reaching consensus on the order of transactions.

However, there is a difference between Pi Network nodes and those that operate in proof-of-work systems, such as Bitcoin. Since Pi uses the consensus mechanism found in the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP), nodes from trusted groups, known as quorum pieces, confirm transactions only if trusted peers agree.

It is important to note that security circles created by mobile miners form a global graph of trust that helps determine which nodes can participate in authentication.

Build to be accessible

The Core team also emphasized some of the differences between nodes on different blockchains and those operating within the Pi ecosystem. They explain that the whole idea of Pi Network is to work under a user-centered design where Pioneers with little technical knowledge can install the Pi Node desktop program and enable or disable the participation of nodes through a simple interface.

The team noted that this approach is consistent with Pi’s strategy of “progressive scalability,” which allows the network to evolve to full decentralization while remaining accessible to everyday users.
