55 Avonhurst Drive, Glen Waverley is listed at $1.3m-$1.4m with a two-storey apartment that agent Peter Serafino calls a potential “mortgage buster”.

A 1909 Renault AX Roadster is on the table for a Glen Waverley home buyer with his “mortgage buster” flat.

A four-bedroom, three-bathroom property at 55 Avonhurst Drive, Glen Waverley has price expectations of $1.3m-$1.4m and the classic Renault may be available to the successful bidder at the right price.

Alan and Margaret Lethborg lived in this home for over 40 years, Alan’s life’s work focused on restoring rare cars.

Their stepson, Graeme Charter, said Alan had completed a full restoration for customers and his collection, some of the cars would continue to be honored at prestigious events such as Motorclassica at the Royal Exhibition Building.

“He was very involved in the classic car community,” Mr Charter said.

A dedicated study adds to the flexibility of working from home within the Glen Waverley family home.

A lofty space, a nod to long-time owner Alan Lethborg’s obsession with classic cars and workshop life.

“It was about art and preservation.”

Alan’s fascination with machines extended beyond cars.

Mr Charter said he was building a track behind the house for miniature trains on the former site, a feature that became a local curiosity.

“The neighborhood kids loved it,” he said.

Winters would often take Alan to Lightning Ridge, where he would field mining claims for opal.

Mr Charter said the 1909 Renault reflected the depth of Alan’s career and was among the cars most closely linked to the family’s history.

Buxton Mount Waverley agent Peter Serafino said the main commercial hook was a two-storey extension to the rear with its own kitchen, bathroom, electricity and gas.

“If someone wants to lower that category, maybe for a university student, that really helps,” said Mr. Serafino.

He described it as a “loan capital” that could be used in that way.

Mr. Serafino said Pinewood’s pocket-sized location adds extra value, home to Brentwood Secondary College and Pinewood Primary School.

“It’s hard to put an exact dollar value on school grounds, because they’re full of emotions,” he said.

“Consumers place a high value on access to education.”

Mr Serfaino said dual driveways are another rarity at this price point and block size.

The large living room is one of the main living areas of the home, providing a family space before the sale of Glen Waverley.

The kitchen sits at the heart of the Glen Waverley home, which also includes a two-story apartment at the rear.

“It’s very rare in this price bracket and block size,” he said.

“You rarely get two driveways unless the frontage is very large.

“Here, it’s wide without being too big.”

He said separate entrances and private parking create flexibility for families now and long-term development later.

The Glen Waverley home is scheduled to go to auction on Saturday 28th February at 12.30pm.
