Inside the Aussie supermodel and NBA star’s $11m chateau

Aussie supermodel Catherine McNeil and her NBA star husband, Miles Plumlee, have sold their Queensland hideaway after upgrading to a French-inspired chateau down the road.

An energetic couple has secured $5.7 million for a 1.9ha property at 55 Rainforest Road in Tanawha, which boasts a basketball court.

The pair love the Sunshine Coast so much, they shelled out $11 million for a Hollywood-worthy chateau on 4ha in nearby Chevallum – a record price for the property.

Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty agent Melissa Schembri, who sold both properties, said at first she wasn’t sure she could sell the Chevallum property for $11 million – until she saw the property for herself.

“I just walked in and went, ‘Holy hell! This place looks like it was transported from Europe to the Sunshine Coast.’

Ms Schembri said Mr Plumlee had been looking at the property for some time as it was close to the road, before he decided to “take it”.

“Because they’ve traveled so much in Europe, you actually feel like you’re in Europe in that house,” she said.

“They had a lot of time under surveillance, I think they were just looking for a secret place.”

The palatial five bedroom, six bathroom house occupies 1340 sqm of living space and was built by its previous owners. a place to live.

Features include Italian flagstone flooring, chandeliers and light fittings, Portuguese limestone fireplaces, intricate ceiling roses, landscaped gardens, a pool, and a lap pool.

The Chevallum area has acres of landscaped gardens.


Everything about the property is great.


Ms McNeil, now 36, won a modeling competition run by Girlfriend magazine when she was just 14 years old.

She went on to appear in Harpers Bazaar and Vogue, Australian Fashion Week and in campaigns for top designers such as Hugo Boss, Dolce and Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Gucci, Chanel, Christian Dior and Hermes.

Mr Plumlee was a professional basketball player, who had a seven-year career in the NBA and won an NBL championship with the Perth Wildcats in 2020.

Ms McNeil and Mr Plumlee in 2023, and purchased Tanawha retreat in 2021 for $3.49 million.

They have a 20-month-old son named Atticus and recently welcomed another baby boy.

The Tanawha property, which has sold to a local family with young children, is described as a resort-style retreat with a tree-lined driveway that “winds through tropical gardens, lush landscaped lawns and rainforest corridors”.

The large pavilion-style residence has two wings with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, multiple indoor and outdoor patios and entertaining areas, a media and rumpus room, a home office and a one-car garage.

The property at 55 Rainforest Rd, Tanawha, sold for a property record under $5.7 million.


The Tanawha property, which sold to a local family with young children, is described as a stylish retreat.


The guest house has two bedrooms, designer kitchen, open plan living areas, veranda and two stylish bathrooms.

“I think more and more people are realizing that the Sunshine Coast is amazing,” said Ms Schembri.

“For those houses to exist there have been people with money on the coast for a long time, but for them to change hands, it also shows that many people are moving to the coast who appreciate the idea and are beginning to see that the Sunshine Coast is one of the best places to live in the world.

He said he had also seen some immigrants returning to Queensland.

“If you think about what’s happening in Dubai right now, whenever things happen like Covid and (in Dubai), that’s when the evacuees come back and they want these beautiful buildings as a safe haven.
