‘Today’ Host Al Roker Shows Off The Gym In His $6 Million New York Home As He Gets Back Into Exercise

“Today” is the star of the show Al Roker gave fans his take on the gym setup in his $6 million New York City townhouse, while revealing how he dedicates himself to working out.
The 71-year-old weatherman, who had a gastric bypass in 2002 and knee surgery in 2023, took to Instagram to share the details of how he and his wife stay in shape in their Upper East Side abode. Deborah it was purchased for $3.25 million in 2000.
In a recent post shared on his Instagram, the father of three was seen sweating profusely, in what appeared to be a basement room of the house, which has been turned into a makeshift exercise studio.
Roker’s workout began with some exercises on a balance trainer, which is known to be a useful tool in maintaining knee health, especially after surgery.
In his post, Roker admitted that he chose to post pictures of his workouts online to account for himself, admitting that he probably should have spent the day gone for hours in front of the fireplace.

“Once again, I needed to have a #talkwithmyself so I don’t spend the whole morning in front of the stove. And yes, as some of you show, sometimes you need that. The problem is, I’ve been doing too little of that and it’s not enough this time,” he wrote.
He added, “#somethingsbetterthannothing.”
After hitting the balance trainer, Roker grabbed a set of weights and got to work, mastering a series of moves that included bicep curls, pushups, squats, heel raises, and tricep extensions.
The media star’s gym background included a colorful, patterned carpet, a charming brick fireplace, lots of windows and a couch, which was moved aside to make room for Roker’s fitness equipment.
In 2002, Roker underwent a gastric bypass, which reduced him from 340 to 190 pounds. In 2023, he shed 45 extra pounds with the help of a low-carb diet and workouts created for him by a personal trainer. Jose Garcia.
Roker previously opened up about her eating disorders in her 2012 book, “Never Goin’ Back: Winning the Weight Loss Battle for Good,” in which she said binge eating took a toll on her career and marriage.
“My wife is a size 4; she runs, she works out, and it was a problem in our marriage. On Saturday she would wake up, get dressed to run and I would sit on the couch or make breakfast for the kids and she was very happy with our decisions. She, on the other hand, was not,” he wrote in his book “Today” in 2013.
“He was upset about that, frustrated, angry. He thought, ‘Why don’t you care enough about yourself and why don’t you care about me and our relationship enough to change?’
“And I said, ‘Look, it’s not about you. It’s about me.’

In addition to that in the memoir, he noted that he decided to make a permanent change when his father, Albert Lincoln Roker Sr., died.
“I don’t know if you have ever made a deathbed promise to someone you love, but if you have, you know the kind of guilt and great responsibility I had at that time,” he said.
In 2022, Roker hit the 20-year anniversary of his gastric bypass surgery, revealing that he will “never forget” how much he gained from his weight loss journey.
At the time, she shared several photos of herself wearing her old jeans to show off her jawline.
“Hard to believe it was 20 years ago today, I wore these size 54 Levi’s jeans for my 340lbs #gastricbypass and here I am today. It’s still hard but I’m not going back. I have setbacks and struggles every day, but I never forget how far I’ve come,” she captioned.
When he’s not in the gym or working out at home, Roker often writes about taking long walks in his New York neighborhood, or in the stunning countryside surrounding his upstate New York home, which he bought for just $380,000 in 1997.
The property covers less than 40 acres and was a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home when Roker and his wife bought it.
Amidst the recent storm that hit the East Coast, Roker shared a few videos of snow falling near his home, as well as a clip of his roaring fireplace.
“Well, so much for trying to get out of there to leave so early!” he joked. “But, wow, is it beautiful.”
