‘Bad’: Aussie council lawn action mocked

A distraught Aussie has taken to her own devices after falling ill in an unsightly park near her home and cutting herself.
Well-maintained parks and other public amenities are a big part of maintaining property values in any suburb.
An anonymous good Samaritan from Rosemeadow in Sydney’s south west posted on his local Facebook page following his park renovation.
The site posted before and after photos of Desdemona Park and chastised the local council for not getting to the tall grass sooner.
“It seems unfortunate that Campbelltown Council is not looking after their parks and reserves,” wrote a resident.

“But don’t worry Campbelltown City Council, we’ve done your job.
The responses of some people in the area were different as some residents defended the council while others intervened to hold them in awe.
“They’ve been doing a great job lately. The grass has grown quickly after the great conditions of the past few weeks. But good for you for mowing the lawn,” said another.
“Here they save fuel by staying in parks all day doing FA and you go and do their work for them,” said another.
“They had a banner on their website saying that they are trying, but since it is raining and sunny, they cannot be expected to continue,” said a third local.
Frustrated with the charity machine, Campbelltown Council workers arrived at the park a day later to cut it down as part of their regular maintenance schedule.
A spokesperson for Campbelltown Council said the continued heat and rain had created faster than normal growing conditions.

“The council’s extensive mowing program covers over 1250 hectares in the Campbelltown LGA. Mowing areas are divided into priority areas based on community use,” the spokesperson said.
“During the summer season, it is started first in high-traffic areas such as bus stops, schools, roadsides, playgrounds, footpaths and playgrounds.
“Desdemona Park is considered open space and is scheduled to be mowed every 6 weeks during the summer season.
“The council is encouraging residents to use our new online dashboard to find out when a park or reserve will be cut next.
