A recall request calling the Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos His resignation has been making rounds around town, as first reported by the Arizona Republic.
The Tucson Republican Daniel Butierezwho is running in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, is trying to collect signatures to recall the chief justice.
“I want people to help us, get involved, come out, get signatures, you can have Democrats, independents, Republicans, sign these as long as they live within Pima County. Help us do this, get these signed, and let’s get the sheriff out of office and get someone in that we feel confident about,” he explained in a Facebook video.
The possible recall comes after Nanos failed to disclose details about the start of his career, during a sworn deposition in December, when asked if he had ever been suspended, he replied, “no.”
However, it was later revealed that he was suspended eight times during the first days of his career.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department previously tried to allay concerns by issuing a press release that spoke angrily about “errors” identified in Nanos’ online history, insisting that these were “clerical” errors.
“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department recently identified two clerical errors in Sheriff Nanos’ public filing,” the statement read. “Both discrepancies in dates were administrative and were not intended to mislead or distort Sheriff Nanos’ career history.”
According to the spokesperson of the department, the identified errors are related to the dates in the list of Nanos’ success at work.
The uncertainty about his work history will be discussed when the district’s Board of Supervisors meets on March 24.
Pima County Supervisor Matt Heinz made his views on Nanos clear, telling The Republic, “If you see something troubling and serious happening to one of the district office managers, it’s very, very important to us to investigate as fully as possible and get more information.”
He continued, “This man has been living a life of fraud in Pima County for 43 years. I would like to see him removed.”
Realtor.com® has reached out to Butierez, Heinz, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for comment.
Nanos’ work has been in the spotlight since the mother of the show “Today”. Savannah Guthrie was kidnapped from his home in Tucson, AZ, on Feb. 1.
The Arizona police officer leading the Nancy kidnapping case previously admitted he believed the 84-year-old was “targeted,” warning that the suspect “will” strike again.

Nanos previously revealed the motives of the suspect who kidnapped the mother of the “Today” anchor in Tucson, AZ, at her home on Feb. 1.
While speaking to NBC News, Nanos revealed, “We believe we know why he did this, and we believe it was intentional, but we, we don’t know, we’re not 100% sure about that.”
He mentioned that although he did not want to scare the public, he wanted to ensure that they remained safe.
“So it would be silly to tell people, ‘Yeah, don’t worry about it. You’re not, you’re not the target.’ Don’t even think that because it happened to the Guthrie family, you are safe. No, keep your wits about you,” he explained.
Nanos refused to give further details about the missing case, 84.
