A renovated Victorian brings the best of modern conveniences to Brunswick

A four-bedroom house at 143 Albert St, Brunswick, will be sold at auction on March 28.
Extensive renovations have combined the character of a Victorian home reinterpreted in prime Brunswick with modern luxury.
Purchased by the sellers in 2022, the four-bedroom home at 143 Albert St is the third home they have restored.
“The previous owners had removed the period features, so the idea that we could bring it back to the way it was originally built was an inspiration,” says the seller.

“We love restoring period homes; we feel it’s a privilege.”
Working with a team of professionals, including architect Doria & Sons Builders, who specializes in period homes, architect David Moore, and local architect Robin Mitchelson Design, the interior and exterior of the building were renovated between 2023 and 2024.
“We wanted to bring back the beautiful details that the Victorian era had to offer and allow it to translate into today’s lifestyle,” explains the seller.
The island bench is the highlight of the kitchen.
A vaulted ceiling enhances the feeling of space in the living area overlooking the back yard.
A covered outdoor entertaining area adds to the appeal.
The exterior of the home reflects this intent.
“Reinstalling the block weatherboards on the front of the home, adding in the period restored lead light windows, allowed the home to return to its original state,” said the seller.
Trendy tones and textures, practical features such as storage, skylights, and a separate second front lounge highlight the combination of era and modern style.
The kitchen is equipped with stone-top benches, first-rate appliances, and close-fitting drawers, balancing comfort and functionality.
“The cornices, skirtings, light fittings, fitted doors and high ceilings give the space a really light, textured tiled and wood flooring and color to bring warmth,” explained the seller.
“The family dining and kitchen area with a vaulted ceiling sits well with the high ceilings of the house and continues the feeling of space.”
The open-plan living, kitchen and dining area also connects to the alfresco basement, offering seamless indoor-outdoor living and entertaining.
However, for sellers the most popular feature of this home is its versatility.
Tessellated tiles, picture rails and lighting reflect the character of the restored Victorian home.
High ceilings and traditional windows bring out the Victorian character of the residence.
Subway tiles and a soaking tub feature in the master bathroom.
“You can have five or four bedrooms and a second living room or study, or three bedrooms and a second living room and study. So as life changes, so does the use of the rooms,” they said.
“This floor plan is perfect for growing families or families with older, younger children who need to sit down and still want to entertain, have guests and work at home.”
Located just a short walk from Brunswick train station, the parks, schools, cafes and restaurants of Lygon St and Sydney Rd, 143 Albert St, Brunswick, has a guide price of $2.2m-$2.4m and is scheduled for auction at 2pm on March 28 through Elizabeth Kelly at Jellis Craig Northern, Brunswick.
