David Bromley’s $100,000 art collection included in Gold Coast penthouse sale

1601/1 Aruma St, Surfers Paradise

An important collector’s collection of David Bromley’s original artworks valued at an estimated $100,000 will be auctioned off at a lavish Gold Coast-inspired bathroom.

The contemporary two-story apartment that tops the Greenwich tower on Chevron Island is being marketed by Pezet Matheson, Mitchell Lambert and Joseph Pimentel, and goes under the hammer on April 16.

Owner Tamra Lunn bought the three-bedroom, three-bathroom loft at 1601/1 Aruma St, Surfers Paradise off the plan about four years ago and chose its light-filled spaces to reflect her quirky style.

Ms Lunn’s impressive collection of Bromley works was born out of a personal connection with the famous Australian artist, who even painted her own son, Charlie.

“Every Bromley goes with a lodge,” he said, listing the first four paintings and a statue of a boy with a pipe.

Ms Lunn, a registered nurse who works in plastic and cosmetic surgery at Southport Day Hospital, said she applied the same “attention to detail and aim for perfection” in her home as she did her work.

Rejecting a beach-standard neutral palette, Ms Lunn decorated the 230sqm unit with striking pop art influences and high-end European furniture from Space Furniture and Cult Design.

“I see a lot of beige places, and I think they’re all the same,” she said.

“I like the feeling of spaciousness where everything you look at is easy on the eyes. It’s fun, it’s different.”

Statement pieces add to the inspiring, HOTA-inspired feel of the home, including Jonathan Adler’s “boob vase” that took three months to produce, a limited-edition Porsche coffee machine, a Campbell’s Soup rug, and a whimsical trapeze artist chandelier, hand-woven with fine yarn.

“It’s a thrill to chase, to look at it and think, ‘I’ve got that’,” Ms Lunn said.

The property commands sweeping views across the River Main to the skyline of Surfers Paradise and the Pacific Ocean.

The apartment has three bedrooms and three bathrooms

Features include 4m-high internal ceilings at ground level, a stunning 7m glass area over the stairs, a designer kitchen fitted with V-ZUG appliances, engineered oak flooring, a built-in study area, and a master bedroom suite with sleek ensuite and large walk-in closet.

Adding to its unique installation is an integrated aquarium that houses three fish named Lily, Layla, and Lucy.

While the Bromley collection, the chandelier, and the heavy white goods are locked out of the sale, Ms Lunn said all her fine imported furniture will be negotiable.

“I’m happy to just grab my keys and go,” she said.

“I think it would be great if someone liked it enough to say, ‘I’ll take it as it is’.”

Amenities including an outdoor pool and restaurant are on the same level as the penthouse, and it also comes with two secure basement car spaces.

PropTrach data shows apartment prices in Surfers Paradise were up 5.6 per cent over the past 12 months, to a median of $1.425m.
