Cheryl Hines Criticizes Chelsea Handler For Saying She And RFK Jr. They Sold Her a ‘Toxic’ House—and Says the Comedian Is ‘Trying to Get Your Attention’

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.your wife, Cheryl Hineshe’s headed for the comedian Chelsea Handler about his allegations that the couple sold him a “toxic” $6 million California home.
In May, Handler, 51, aired serious complaints about Kennedy, 72, and Hines, 60, saying the Brentwood, CA, home she bought from the husband and wife duo in October 2021 was in such bad shape when she bought it that she couldn’t live there.
“I haven’t lived in this house. It was like this house,” she said in an episode of her podcast, “Dear Chelsea.” “The idea that this boy is in charge of our country’s life when he didn’t even have a proper foundation in his home.”
Hines has now tried to downplay Handler’s claims, he said during an appearance Tami Lahren‘s podcast saying his allegations “make no sense,” while accusing the comedian of “trying to get attention” by sharing his story about the house sale.
In a preview clip of the podcast episode, obtained by People, Hines confirmed that he he did left Handler a note when they left the place—as the comedian had previously said—but said the message should be proof that he and Kennedy were unaware of the home’s problems.
“I wrote her a personal letter when she moved in, just saying how much we love the house. And I hope you have a good life in this house. And if you need anything, call me. And I left my number,” Hines recalled.
“I don’t know, if we were trying to empty the toxic house, I wouldn’t leave my number.”
Interestingly, when Handler shared her version of events, she described the note as a form of final insult, joking: “They had the nerve to leave me a note. Cheryl Hines left me a note saying, ‘Tell us if there’s anything we can do, Chelsea.’
“I’m like, yeah, what about the f—ing foundation. That’s something you could have done to me. Anyway, I’m not mad about it or anything. I totally freaked you out.”
However, Hines questioned why it took so long for Handler to address the so-called problems with the home, saying that it had been five years since he and Kennedy sold the property to him—accusing him of spreading the word. now in an effort to “get attention.”
“Because he bought this house five years ago and now he’s complaining about it, which again, I don’t know that he gets a lot of sympathy from people. He buys a house for $ 6 million,” said Hines, before suggesting that Handler raised his complaints because “maybe it’s fun for him to make fun” of Kennedy.
“So what are you going to do? You’re trying to laugh, I guess, and whatever you like,” Hines concluded.
The former “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star did not say in the preview clip whether she and Kennedy had any problems with the building during their time there.
Property records show that the property in question, located in Mandeville Canyon, was purchased by Handler through a trust registered under his sister. SimonThe name of —and the last date of sale is listed as Oct. 14, 2021.
Three months before that day, Kennedy, currently serving as PresidentDonald TrumpThe Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services of the US, and Hines, bought another house on the same street, this time for $ 6.6 million.
However, Handler alleges that the couple left the home in an unlivable condition, saying it “didn’t even have a proper foundation” when she took ownership.
He went on to say that the home inspector told him the property was in a “very toxic area,” explaining: “When they opened the house, they were like, ‘This house is a very toxic area, you can’t live here for at least two years.'”
He noted that hehe didthey inspected the property before buying it, but he said there were several problems that could not be found, including an “illegal” storage area built on the grounds of the house.
“So now we have to get his illegal bull—t out of my place,” he continued. “And I’m like, ‘How did they not get this on the first test?’

The comedian went on to say that he was “not exaggerating” any details about the state of the home, while admitting that something has been wrong with Kennedy since he bought the place.
“It was a disaster, and I didn’t know it was going to go in because everything, you know, was hidden. So, I have my issues with RFK,” he shared.
This comedian also did not publicly say that he plans to stay permanently in this place if it is considered safe to live there.
However, Handler has spoken about it beforeanother onethe domestic crisis he faced when he sold his Bel-Air mansion, which he listed for $10.38 million in 2021, the same year he bought Kennedy and Hines’ home.
The “Prom Dates” star, who hails from New Jersey, noted in a 2025 interview with MarketWatch that he made a huge mistake while renovating the property, describing it as his “biggest money mistake.”
Handler explained that he made the decision to renovate the property and reduce the number of bedrooms from five to just two, admitting that this was done to ensure that his family members could not be comfortable for a long time.
When asked by the publication what was his “biggest money mistake,” the comedian was quick to point out home improvement.
“Converting a five-room house into a two-room house so that my family won’t visit me for a long time,” he answered.
Not only did her renovations make the “house worthless,” it also meant that Handler had to put in more expensive work when she decided to list the home.
“I had to convert two bedrooms into five rooms in order to sell them,” he explained.
Meanwhile, even though Hines and Kennedy have bought another Mandeville Canyon home, Handler can be safe in the knowledge that she won’t have to face much personal run-in with the couple—who have since moved to Washington, DC, where Kennedy’s career is based.
Kennedy purchased a Georgetown residence for $4.4 million in April 2025, and Hines confirmed later that year that he was fully engaged in the property.
