‘Arizona’s Best Kept Secret’ Is A Beautiful A-Frame In Prescott’s High-Country Forest—Available For Under $500K

Nestled among the towering pine trees of the Arizona state, the newsletter A-frame home known as the Lynx Creek Chalet offers buyers a rare opportunity to own a fully furnished mountain retreat for less than $500,000.

Located outside of Prescott in the small mountain community of Walker, this charming one-bedroom cabin brings the kind of forest that most people have experienced on vacation.

Even more attractive? The site already operates as a very successful short-term rental site and, according to the listing, ranks in the top 1% of Airbnb listings worldwide.

That success is the result of the love poured into the property by its current owners, who considered the ramshackle property a “rough diamond” when they first discovered it.

“This A-frame has always had a place in my wife’s heart,” says the owner and listing agent Clyde McKaywho helped transform the building into the outstanding rental property it is today.

“His walking around the area just took him past this home, and he always saw a diamond in a rough place.”

So, when the home finally hit the market in 2022, McKay and his wife found the opportunity too good to pass up. The couple put their energy into restoring and renovating the tiny cabin, and the result is the house you see today—which officially opened as an Airbnb in August of that year.

“The little diamond in the tree became our diamond after a lot of hard work and amazing decoration,” explained McKay. “Lynx Creek Chalet has been a real success from the start.”

The property has maintained an impressive 86% occupancy rate, generating approximately $42,000 per year in bookings, with the potential for even higher returns.

True to its A-frame roots, the home combines architectural beauty with sweeping forest views. High ceilings, a signature triangular silhouette, and wide windows help frame (pun intended) the surrounding pines while allowing natural light to fill the interior.

But perhaps the most striking feature is the outdoor living space, because there is so much of it.

“Lynx Creek Chalet has seven decks—yes seven,” McKay said. “Everyone has a vision of trees and nature.”

Among them is the favorite high perch that gives the feeling of sitting among the trees while facing Spruce Mountain. From Juliet balconies to low-level seating by the seasonal river, the building encourages enjoying the outdoors year-round.

The property is situated on an area of approximately 1 acre, which is considered a marginal value for leased land.

Over the past four years, this home has undergone numerous updates to continue to elevate its cozy cabin appeal. Rather than focusing solely on cosmetics, improvements were also made to the home’s functional features, including new lighting, fans, and even a propane fireplace insert.

Exterior enhancements such as new instruments, lights, seats, and additional doors, were also added.

“The result is a place that feels turnkey and well-maintained, rather than dated or put together over time,” says McKay, noting that the home is being sold fully furnished — right down to the decking and outdoor seating — making it move-in or rental-ready.

Located at an elevation of approximately 6,800 feet, the cabin sits within the Prescott National Forest, where cool temperatures and mountain air create a refreshing escape from the desert heat. Hiking trails, off-road trails, and Lynx Lake, a popular fishing and kayaking area, are all just minutes away.

And the town of Walker also holds a special place in the hearts of locals, as McKay explains when he describes it as “a place where neighbors genuinely care for each other,” whether it’s during winter storms or when they help out with various projects.

For buyers who dream of a forest escape close to an exciting city, this small A-frame checks that box too—it’s just 15 minutes from Prescott’s restaurants and shops.

“That combination of natural beauty and true community support is something that buyers quickly recognize, and it’s a big part of why demand for properties in this area remains strong,” McKay said. “Walker is one of Arizona’s best-kept secrets.”
