The Iconic Inn at Turner Mill in Stowe is described as one of the “oldest ski resorts in the US,” built in 1936.

Over the years, it has been frequented by all kinds of celebrity guests attracted by its charming interiors and stunning proximity to the area’s main thoroughfares.

“This was living in the stars in the 1930s,” said the listing agent George Bambaraof Pall Spera Co. “The Kennedys lived here—John F. Kennedy came here as a child.”

Now, this iconic place is looking for a new manager ready to hone their hospitality skills, while taking a treasured piece of Vermont history and ushering it into a new era.

Fortunately, a lot of work has already been done by the dealers, who have made a comprehensive restoration in 2020, putting “more emphasis on fit and finish.” The result is an exquisite space that combines old-world charm with modern comfort.

“From the wallboard, everything is new,” Bambara explained.

Extensive upgrades include new kitchens, windows, exterior and interior doors, heating and electrical systems, and central air conditioning.

Only limited modern renovations with classic details. High-end stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and reclaimed wood floors elevate the interior while maintaining the charm of a classic Vermont inn.

The inn occupies 6,760 square feet and includes 14 bedrooms and 12 baths. Multiple living rooms, dining areas, and kitchens are spread across several levels, offering flexibility for private use, hospitality activities, or a combined model.

The upper floor has private suites, including two-bedroom units with kitchens and baths—perfect for employees or long-term guests.

Location is one of the most compelling features of a place. The inn is adjacent to the Stowe Mountain Resort property, making it “as close as you can get to the resort without being on it,” according to Bambara.

“Ski home from the top of the Stowe Mountain Resorts FourRunner Quad, down the Bruce Trail and walk across the street to Turner Mill. This property has a stop on the Mountain Road Shuttle for easy access to Stowe Mountain Resort and Stowe Village,” the listing says.

However, the area is attractive during the warmer months, according to Bambara.

The inn comes with 9 acres, close to hiking and biking trails and popular swimming holes.

An important part of the property’s value lies in its large landscape, which includes mature trees and grass. It also offers opportunities for expansion.

“The biggest part of the value is the 5-acre back portion of the lot and what can be done there,” Bambara noted.

While the seller does not subdivide the property, the village’s zoning regulations allow for future development.

For those drawn to Vermont’s ski culture and small-town charm, the Stowe Inn offers a rare opportunity to step into the role of its next owner.
