Hello Mississippi! Polynesian Property Brings a Slice of Hawaiian Life to Diamondhead for just $315K

You don’t need to travel to Tahiti or Hawaii to live the Polynesian lifestyle—a slice of paradise can be found much closer to home.
A Polynesian-inspired attraction in Mississippi offers a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in island living, complete with proximity to nearby beaches.
Listed at $315,000, the home is located in the Diamondhead community, a planned development that dates back to the 1960s.
“Diamondhead, Mississippi, was created to resemble Diamond Head in Hawaii. It’s the highest point along the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” the listing agent explained. Megan Bryant with eAgent Gulf Coast.
However, there is a big difference between these two communities—the lengths they reach; Diamondhead, MS, is only 100 feet above sea level, while Diamond Head, HI, is 760 feet high.

The Mississippi community has Hawaiian street names like Makiki Drive, where this home is located, and some of the homes like this one have a tropical style.
“It has a very high ceiling. It has a crow’s nest at the top that is accessed by a ladder on the second floor,” said Bryant. “It’s got kind of a beach vibe with the tile, and it’s fun little gecko pulling out the cabinets and drawers, lots of palm trees to set the scene.”
The 1,760 square foot home was built in 1975 and the current owner has made some changes such as landscaping, converting the carport to a garage, and adding shutters to the windows.
“[It is] just really, really cool, very unique. It just gives you a comfortable feeling when you walk in,” she said. “All the different features they’ve put in, you can tell they’ve really taken their time.”
There are three bedrooms and two full baths and a crow’s nest area.
“I really like the crow’s nest, I think it’s really neat,” Bryant explained, adding that people ask if it’s hot there, but he says it’s not. “Of course you can put furniture up, but it’s just for sitting.”
The home sits on about three-quarters of an acre, which Bryant said is rare in the Diamondhead area.

“Typically, homes are about a third of an acre, so this is three properties combined, which is great,” he said. “If a buyer wants to come in and divide the lot and sell, he will need the city’s permission. [the house] it’s built, it’s like a middle ground, which is good.”
Bryant says the seller lives in the home full time, but it can also be a vacation home.
“People come in from New Orleans or Mobile and even Hattiesburg, it’s just an hour’s commute, so if they want to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is a nice, quiet place,” he said.
“The majority of people in Diamondhead are retired, however, we are seeing an influx of families moving in because of the affordability and amenities the community can provide.”
Anyone who buys this property can become part of the HOA and have access to community pools, golf, and other amenities.
While the home feels warm, it doesn’t look kitschy.
“I don’t think it’s over the top. I feel like they made it really fun, not bright colors, crazy or anything,” Bryant said in Polynesian style. “They tried to make it warm and inviting with red and brick and kind of natural pink colors.”
