Huge Frankston block with fire damaged house for sale

A weatherboard house at 6 Cecil St, Frankston, is for sale following a fire.


A dilapidated Frankston house listed as an outstanding regeneration or development opportunity could sell for more than $1m.

A five-bedroom weatherboard home at 6 Cecil St has a range of $950,000-$1.045m.

Luke Magree of OBrien Frankston said he believed the fire was started by Christmas tree decorations, around last year. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.

Mr Magree said the owner of this home for over ten years is hoping that the circa-1950 house will be bought by someone who wants to restore it, but also expects a lot of investors, renovators and developers because of the size of the 1000sq m block.

Within 48 hours of the property being listed, investors from as far away as Sydney contacted him about the property in addition to other buyers including someone hoping to renovate and flip a home.

An address within the Frankston Secondary College area is likely to appeal to families.

The Parklands including the George Pentland Botanical Gardens, hospitals, Foot St shops, bus routes, Monash University and Frankston’s CBD are all close by.

Mr Magee described the home as an unusual offering to the area.

“It’s probably in the best location of Frankston bar the sea front and it’s a flat, usable area

blue-chip Frankston, smack-bang in the middle of everything in the high school area,” Mr Magee said.

The original layout of the home consisted of several living areas around a central kitchen.

Mr. Magee said the list presents a good opportunity to demolish the existing residential area and build three or four large townhouses on the block, subject to council approval.

Or, on a rough estimate, he said renovating the house could cost at least $150,000 with a large loan of $300,000-$400,000 if the new owner wants out.

“The living room where the fire happened, that front living room is back in the frame,” Mr Magee said.

In August, the Thomastown home where the fire broke out fetched $660,000.

Last month, a three-bedroom house in Yarraville with a fire-damaged kitchen and family room changed hands for $770,000.
