EXCLUSIVE: ‘King of Hollywood’ Douglas Fairbanks’ Former Beachfront Paradise Sells for $16 Million

The California residence that was once the “King of Hollywood,” Douglas Fairbanksit sold for $15.7 million, marking only the fifth time it has changed hands in its remarkable 103-year history.

Fairbanks, who died at age 56 in 1939, rose to prominence when he appeared in a string of silent films, including “The Mark of Zorro,” “Robin Hood,” and “The Thief of Bagdad.”

The Hollywood A-lister made history as a founder of United Artists and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and even hosted the first Academy Awards in 1929.

In his heyday, Fairbanks, his longtime home built in 1922, was as famous for being as “well-to-do and bossy” as he was a star of stage and screen—regularly gathering and entertaining Hollywood glitz in his extravagant abode.

When he died, Fairbanks left behind an impressive collection of assets, including trust funds, personal property, and real estate, most notably his famous Santa Monica mansion, where he died.

Now, the home, located in the storied Gold Coast of Santa Monica, has been purchased by another lucky buyer, who will not only get a great place to live, but also access to one of the most amazing beaches in the world.

The property, which was sold by Colette Stevens of Pardee Properties, perfectly blends elegance and modern coastal comfort and includes 60 feet of desirable oceanfront, according to a press release shared with Realtor.com®.

The home, located on 0.26 acres, has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It covers about 4,000 square meters.

Although it has undergone several updates and renovations since the Fairbanks’ ownership, the property retains much of its historic charm.

Upon entering the property, guests are greeted with a sun-drenched living area, where the sound of the ocean can be heard.

Large glass doors here open to a private backyard with a resort-style pool, lush green lawns, and plenty of dining options.

Adjacent to the living area is a large chef’s kitchen that was redesigned with marble ceilings, high-end appliances, and a casual dining area.

The dining room is a good example as it has a large wooden table, modern overhead lighting, and a wooden ceiling.

Elsewhere on the main floor, there are two guest rooms and an elevator.

There is another guest house upstairs, and it comes with a private bathroom.

Also on this upper level is the master suite, which includes a “tranquil area with comfortable seating, a spa-inspired bathroom featuring dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a walk-in rainfall shower,” the press release said.

Outside, there is a kitchen equipped with a built-in grill and a wood-fired pizza oven.

“Step into a private oceanfront suite and experience panoramic coastal vistas and postcard-perfect sunsets,” the description added.

“Combining Hollywood heritage with sophisticated oceanfront living, this reimagined oceanfront villa is a rare piece of California coastal heritage, located on one of Santa Monica’s premier beach front parcels.”
