Toni Zagame lists a $10m Sorrento with backyard sea boxes

A Sorrento home comes with its own bathroom vanity, which can command prices north of $1m on the coast.

The pastor of a wealthy Melbourne family from Zagame is selling the Sorrento beach resort she bought with business founder husband Victor — complete with backyard bathtubs.

And with the hope of adding a neighboring family-owned home to the sale ticket, it could be a $10m+ combination.

Documents show the home is in the name of Antoinette (Toni) Zagame, a family name known for its award-winning hotel empire which began with the Albion Charles Hotel in Northcote, before expanding to include their family pubs and holiday resorts.

The business is now run by son Victor Jnr and Robert Anthony.

The $7.3m-$8m property on Point Nepean Rd is known as Tower House in honor of the area’s historic tower houses, but was actually built in the 1990s.

Its listing is the latest in a string of high-priced real estate deals by the Zagames, with Ms Zagame selling her home in Brighton for $24.5m in 2023, and the family’s commercial arm selling the Garden State Hotel in Melbourne’s CBD late last year for $35m.

Records show the family bought the Sorrento residence for $1.47m in 2002.

The back yard has a swimming pool, tennis court and shower boxes – all in front of the back deck.

Its must-have Peninsula backyard includes a tennis court, pool and spa, as well as one of the most unique home features in the area – bathtubs.

Rob Curtain of Sothew International Realty is handling the sale and while he declined to comment on the property’s owners, he noted that the colorful boxes were a common sight along Mornington Peninsula beaches and he was yet to see the backyard.

The Point Nepean Rd area has four.

“It’s a nice nod to coastal culture,” said Mr Curtain.

“And if they charge $1m for a beach box, the home must be very expensive.”

The agent said the resort-style home has a prominent location next to the Sorrento Hotel, a great feel and scope for the next owner to continue to put their stamp on it.

The five-bedroom residence has a sunroom, lounge and dining area, living room and rear entertaining deck.

There are four bathrooms and two parking spaces in the garage, with additional parking space behind the gate of the 1711sq m property.

A large property may also include a neighboring cottage.

The floorplan also includes a rooftop terrace and a glass-enclosed spiral staircase leading up to a balcony and terrace, all with views of Port Phillip Bay.

With a portico entrance set behind lush gardens, the home creates an immediate impression.

A neighboring three bedroom cottage fronting Hotham Rd can also be put up for auction if a buyer is looking for a large living space or guest accommodation.

Mr Curtain said the home could be sold for around $2.3m-$2.5m.

In December, the Zagame family sold their popular Melbourne pub the Garden State Hotel for $35m.

Ms Zagame also parted with the long-time family home at 27 Kent Ave, Brighton, for $24.5m in 2023.
