Valentine’s Day see hot auction action across Melbourne

A weekend of sports cars was among the Valentine’s Day gifts on sale at Melbourne auctions over the weekend, including at Wheelers Hill (left) while Dingley Village auctioneer Leonie celebrated with Buxton’s Nathan Arrowsmith (right).
Love was in the air as home buyers were lured by sports cars, flowers and champagne at Melbourne auctions on Valentine’s Day on Saturday.
PropTrack recorded an initial rate of 64.9 percent from 453 initial auction results.
Agents’ hearts were filled with bitterness as buyers threw big bucks at homes throughout the day.

In Malvern East, a house sold for $2.025m after being listed for $1.55m-$1.65m.
Ray White’s Tom Grieve said the property was advertised on the market at the top of the price guide but stiff competition between four buyers – who had high hopes of developing the 780sq m block – resulted in the house changing hands for $375,000 more than expected.
Mr Grieve gave the person who was going to open the tender, who ended up buying the home, a bottle of champagne and flowers in honor of Valentine’s Day.
“Her husband said, ‘Thank you, you did my job for me,’ or something like that,” Mr Grieve said.

BigginScott Glen Waverley auctioneer and director Ming Xu said Wheelers Hill house is in a quiet area popular with families.
And the family who bought a Wheelers Hill house for $1.6m have been given a BMW to drive next weekend of their choice, by director and auctioneer Ming Xu and Waverley BMW BigginScott Glen Waverley.
Mr Xu said that although the new home owners will not be able to keep the car forever, they are happy about their future journey and finding this five-bedroom house.
“Having the winning bidder’s car added excitement to the auction and as it was Valentine’s Day, it was nice to give a gift to all who attended,” he added.
Three buyers contested the auction of the residence which was placed on the market at $1.5m.

In Melbourne’s north-west, Tullamarine homeowners were overjoyed to have a property-related Valentine’s Day when their house suddenly sold for seven figures.
Ray White’s Malek Younan said the reserve was $930,000 but the four-bedroom property cost $1.093m.
“There were four to five bidders,” said Mr. Younan.
“The buyer was an investor who saw it at the last minute about four days ago and ended up competing and the auction went crazy.”

Mr. Younan said the Central Bank’s decision to raise rates on February 3 has not yet had a major impact on the local markets.
“The increase in the interest rate did not have a big impact on the auction but we may see an impact in one or two months in the future when people’s ability to borrow is affected,” he said.
He also held an auction holding a favorite rose from his branch and gave flowers to the owners and buyers.

Love was flowing at the Moonee Ponds auction where roses were given to all who attended.
Matthews Agency director John Matthews oversaw the marketing campaign for the two-bedroom house which had a reserve of $1.225m and achieved $1.39m as six bidders competed for the keys.
Matthews’ marketing and communications officer, Lyndal Sutton, said that around 50 people would come to view the residence under the hammer.
Mr Matthews’ other listing, a four-bedroom house in Essendon, also attracted six buyers.
Sold for $1.42m, smashing the $1.26m reserve after being sold to a young buyer from nearby East Keilor.
9 Mussert Ave, Dingley Village, is close to Dingley Village Primary School, cafes, shops, bus routes and parks.
Buxton’s Nathan Arrowsmith also presented flowers to the buyers and seller of a three-bedroom house in Dingley Village that changed hands for $1.15m.
“We left with lots of flowers for the owner and the winning couple,” said Mr Arrowsmith.
The owner had lived in the home for 23 years and was delighted when it sold for more than $1.1m, he added.
