Travis Kelce’s Retirement Rumors Are Growing Ahead of Free Agency – What Does That Mean for His Six Million Kansas House?

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has left NFL fans on the edge of their seats as the world waits with bated breath for the 36-year-old football pro to confirm he plans to return to the AFC team for a 14th season—weeks before he becomes a free agent.
Kelce, who joined the Chiefs in 2013 after being selected as the 63rd pick in that year’s NFL draft, has been with this team for almost 13 years, which the Chiefs have already expressed that they are happy to extend, if the end so wishes.
The only problem? No one seems sure that is what the football star wants, including the Chiefs general manager, Brett Veachwho revealed earlier this month that, while he has had several “good” conversations with Kelce about his future, nothing has been decided for the 2026 season.
Speaking to reporters at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Veach noted that the Chiefs are “prepared for any situation” regarding Kelce’s future, stressing that the team is ready for him on its roster if he chooses to play another year, but there are also emergencies when he chooses to retire.
“Travis is the best, he’s an icon and hopefully he’ll come back and we’ll just let that process play out,” Veach said, according to Sky Sports.
Kelce, on the other hand, refused to address the retirement rumors that have been swirling around him for the past year—a belief that was further fueled when he announced his engagement to the pop star. Taylor Swift in August.
When he was asked about his plans for the year 2026 when the Chiefs were training in August, Kelce threw the reporters and said: “Men, I will ask that when I retire.

Should he choose to retire, questions will soon be raised about where Kelce and Swift, 36, plan to live, with their shared property portfolio currently spanning various locations across the US, including Leawood, KS, where the NFL star has a $6 million mansion.
Kelce, who was born and raised in Ohio, closed on the property in November 2023 and has since made numerous updates to the mansion, including the addition of an underground “man cave,” which he began working on in October 2024.
Before taking that palatial residence, Kelce purchased another residence, this time in the Kansas City, MO, suburb of Briarcliff West. The sports star bought the property for a record low of $995,000 in 2019 and, despite upgrading to a bigger home, records show he still owns it.
However, if Kelce chooses to end his time with the Chiefs, it is not clear whether he will choose to continue living in this area, especially since his fiancee has luxury homes in other places, including New York City, Rhode Island, and Tennessee.
The couple may have opted to put down roots in a brand new home after tying the knot—which many fans believe will happen in June—and reports surfaced that they were spotted looking at separate homes in a cozy Cleveland neighborhood, not far from where Kelce grew up.
According to local news source, The Scene, Swift and Kelce were seen visiting “at least two luxury homes” just outside the Ohio city — at the same time they were spotted enjoying a lunch date in nearby Chagrin Falls.
“Multiple sources have confirmed to The Scene that Swift and Kelce have toured at least two luxury homes currently for sale in Northeast Ohio’s tony Eastside,” wrote the letter in August 2025.
However, both Swift and Kelce may have a very emotional relationship with the residence of Kansas-which is the place where the NFL star chose to pop the question in the summer, after turning his yard into a wonderful world of flowers to surprise the singer.

Should Kelce choose to downsize his Kansas home, he may face a tough time recouping his investment, Realtor.com® data shows that the median list price in Leawood fell 27.89% between December 2022, less than a year before he bought his home, and December 2025.
For now, Kelce seems content to focus on his efforts to enjoy his free time during the offseason, where he went to Pebble Beach, CA, to take part in a golf tournament, before going to New York, where he and Swift were spotted on a night out at the popular restaurant Chez Margaux.
Photos posted on Instagram by celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi showed the happy couple leaving a restaurant with some friends, before jumping into a waiting SUV that would have speeded them back to Swift’s sprawling Tribeca penthouse, which is spread over four units in one building.
The “Bad Blood” singer bought the first two of those units for around $20 million in 2014, then turned them into a nine-bedroom, nine-bathroom home with beamed ceilings, curved staircases, and large windows.
He bought a third unit in the building a few years later for $9.75 million, increasing his Tribeca takeover by more than 3,500 square feet.
Then in 2017, the pop star splurged on a nearby townhouse, paying $18 million for a three-story, 5,000-square-foot mansion, adding to his growing urban empire.
In addition, Swift owns multiple homes in Nashville, TN, where she began her music career at a young age, having moved to the southern city from her hometown in Pennsylvania.
One of the first homes he bought was a chic restaurant on Nashville’s Music Row, which he bought for $1.9 million in 2009. Two years later, he bought a mansion in Nashville’s Northumberland Estate for $2.5 million.

Perhaps her favorite place, however, is her vacation home in Rhode Island, which she has owned for more than 10 years, and which often serves as her private retreat when she needs to escape the hustle and bustle of her A-list career.
Located in Westerly, the historic property was purchased by the singer for $17.75 million in 2013—and, for years, served as the venue for Swift’s infamous Independence Day bash, which was attended by dozens of her A-listers, including. Gigi Hadid, Blake Livelyagain Cara Delevingne.
The luxurious beach complex was built in 1930 and once belonged to the developer and the community.Rebekah Harknesswho was marriedWilliam Hale “Bill” Harkness.
Swift has reportedly made several renovations to the home in recent years — with renovation plans filed as late as 2024 indicating she’s planning a significant expansion to the property, including the addition of another bedroom.
Whenever she needs to go to the West Coast, Swift sleeps at her stunning Beverly Hills mansion—a 1934 landmark owned by a famous movie producer. Samuel Goldwyn.
Swift originally bought the seven-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom mansion in 2015 for $25 million—she got a huge discount on the house, which was listed at $32 million.
The home, which sits on 2 acres and offers more than 10,000 square feet of living space, is described in its listing as “an example of gentle grace and outstanding values.”
Highlights of the eye-catching home include seven bedrooms, guest room, screening room, and gym. The park-like grounds offer a championship tennis court, rose garden, pool and swimming pool.
