A ‘neglected’ Fairfield home has been transformed into a $4.4m oasis

Located in one of Fairfield’s most exclusive riverfront neighborhoods is a mid-century modern-inspired yet architecturally impressive home.
However, eight years ago, when traders Peter and Rose first saw 60A Park Crescent, it looked very different.
“The first house on the block was a ’60s cream brick house that had been rented for years and neglected,” Rose said.
“I went in and out and I thought, there is no way I can buy this place. My husband saw something different. He saw potential.”
And with this ability in mind, the couple bought a house in 2018, did a little renovation so they could move in and “plan their next step”, which ended up being a complete demolition and rebuild.

Located in one of Fairfield’s most exclusive riverfront neighborhoods is this mid-century inspired home.
The building has undergone minor renovations.
The home eventually had a complete demolition and rebuild.
The phase was created by what Rose describes as their “dream team” – architect Fiona Poon (of po-co architecture) and architect Joel McKerlie (of McKerlie Builders).
He says: “They listen to all our ideas and bring the home to life.”
“Fiona was able to welcome natural light from the rear facing north and was able to bring light into every room.”
In addition to natural light, the interior features a restrained palette of Australian timbers and finishes, a decision Rose says was to blend in with its surroundings.
“When it comes to building a home, we wanted something that would be sympathetic to the area,” he said.
“We have Fairfield Park at the end of the street, so we wanted to keep it natural. We chose white brick that’s exposed on the outside and inside. In the front, we went for a traditional Australian theme to blend in with the area. People are always passing by and commenting on it.”
A resort-style area with a sun-kissed mineral pool is the focal point.
The property is scheduled to be sold on March 21.
A three-bedroom house on an 860sq m block has a price guide of $4.2m to $4.4m.
Inside, features like ample storage, a Japanese-style toilet in the ensuite, and a Billi hot water system that provides boiling, cold, and sparkling water are favorites among sellers.
Outside, a resort-style area with a solar-heated mineral pool and automatic cover is the focal point.
“The heated pool is used every day. At night, you can change the color of the lights in the pool to suit your mood or theme,” says Rose.
“Outside, we have an Escea built-in fireplace, which is also a BBQ, and we bought an attachment that turns into a pizza oven. We use it all the time.”
