He encouraged musicians to stay true as he opened up about how important support is, and who supported him in his younger years.

“My memory of ‘Idol’ Carrie Underwood. In fact, I remember watching him and voting [for] his, and thinking, ‘This young man is going to do great things.’ And here we are, after 20 years, we are still here,” he said.

Like Underwood, Lambert’s rise to fame was not easy, as it came after a difficult childhood that saw him homeless at age 6.

She previously told “Good Morning America” that, although she was well-liked as a child, her lifestyle made her life difficult.

“We were homeless. It feels strange to say it now, because we are blessed,” she said.

Lambert revealed that he ended up having no place to call home when his parents began to struggle and fell behind on their mortgage payments.

“The next thing you know, the banker comes over, saying, ‘I need the keys,'” he revealed. His family moved in with relatives before finding an old house in Lindale, TX, to live in.

Because the property was very dilapidated, the owner allowed the Lamberts to live there while they renovated it.

It is not clear whether the house the singer was talking about is the one that is on the market.
